According to him, Sanwo-Olu showed his love for Igbos following the attacks on Ndigbo after the presidential and National Assembly elections.

The decision of the Ohanaeze was announced at a town hall meeting in the state, urging  members to cast their votes for Sanwo-Olu.

The Ohaneze leadership promised to mobilise the over two million Igbo voters in Lagos to cast their votes for Sanwo-Olu.

He said: “We are endorsing him because this is the man that will give us what we have been craving for in Lagos.

“This is the best that can happen to the Ndigbo in Lagos, so come out and vote for him. Hold me responsible for this because I know him and I have seen what he can do.”

Ogbonna said Sanwo-Olu’s actions following the attacks on Ndigbo after the presidential and National Assembly elections showed his love for Igbos to live peacefully in Lagos.

On his part, a former Ohanaeze president, Oliver Akabueze, explained that their members voted against the APC’s candidate during the presidential election because they did not like the party’s choice.

He said: “What played out during last election will not happen next Saturday (March 9) because we love Sanwo-Olu. But during last election, the choice of the party did not meet our expectations and that is why we did that.”

In response to the development, Sanwo-Olu sent out a tweet, expressing appreciation to the Igbo group.

He tweeted: “Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! Ohaneze Ndigbo, we thank you.
